Draft: to be checked before launch.
WeatherOrNot is a free game. We keep as little about you as we can, and we never sell it or show you ads.
What we keep
- Your player name. We make one up when you first answer (like BreezyOtter42). You can change it to the name your friends know you by. If you save your account to play on another phone, you also choose a login name and a password. We only keep a scrambled version of the password (a hash), never the password itself.
- Links you share. When you share a result or a challenge, we make a short link. Anyone with the link can see your player name, your town, your score for that day and that day's weather. Your answers and other games stay private.
- Your answers and scores, the towns you play, your streak, and the leagues you join. Other players see your name and points on leaderboards and league tables.
- Anything you send us through "Something look wrong?", or by email (for example to get back in after forgetting your password). We only use your email address to reply.
- A login cookie, so the site remembers you. It's essential for the game to work, so we don't ask about it. There are no tracking or advertising cookies.
- Your internet address (IP), held briefly in memory to stop people abusing sign-ups and logins. We don't store it.
- Simple daily totals, like how many people visited or tapped Share each day. They're counts only, with nothing that identifies you, and they don't use cookies.
Your chosen town is also saved in your browser, so the game opens on it next time.
What we don't do
- No ads, no tracking, no selling or sharing your data.
- We never ask for your device's location. We only look at its time-zone setting, to suggest a town (an Isle of Man time zone suggests Douglas). You pick your town yourself.
- Weather data is fetched by our server, so weather services never see your device.
Why we keep it
To run the game you asked to play (UK GDPR: performing our agreement with you), and to keep it fair and safe (our legitimate interests).
How long
While you play. Ask us to delete your account and we'll remove your name, answers and scores. We keep daily backups of the game for 14 days, so anything deleted is gone from the backups within 14 days too.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Email us at hello@aidoo.biz. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
